Theresa

92-year-old Lowton resident Teresa has been the primary carer for her 72-year-old daughter Anne who, following a fall lives in a Wigan nursing home. Theresa now lives on her own and is not confident enough to use public transport to visit Anne, She is on a tight budget so therefore taxi visits to see Anne were rare.  By using volunteer drivers Theresa now visits Anne three times a week.

Theresa is a lot happier living independently knowing that all her journeys are pre-booked, our drivers will always help her door to door and wait at the nursing home while she visits Anne, we even stop off at Aldi on the way home and have a quick scoot around with her.

Anne is also a lot more settled in the home knowing that she is getting regular visits from mum. The Driven project has provided a reliable, flexible and friendly service that has enabled Theresa and Anne to maintain the regular contact they craved over the last 12 months

It is only recently that Theresa celebrated her 92nd birthday, so as she has no other family apart from Anne in the UK her regular driver – Tina took her out to Trebaron Garden Centre for Afternoon Tea as a special treat.

Happy birthday Theresa x

Meet Howard

need help

Meet Howard our new driver.

Howard has worked in the care sector for over ten years and had his own painting and decorating business until recently. He has now decided that he wants to re-focus on his passion for helping others and has joined our busy team of drivers. He will be driving the big bus on day trips across the North West and driving one of our accessible MPVs to cover individual drives for our more isolated passengers.

Howard lives in Beech Hill with his wife, Colette and his 3 children, Ben 14, Liam12 and Libby 8 so he is ideally based to cover drives in the Central and Western side of the borough.

The first run he completed was a day out for a local care home to Knowsley Safari Park and we received some great feedback from the passengers. Well done Howard. Keep it up.

Reaching Communities

digital-white-background-community fund

Driven has been awarded £49000 from the Reaching Communities Development Grant Fund.

The funding will be used over the next 12 months to explore new income streams, visit and learn from other well established Community Transport providers, create a new digital strategy for the charity and develop our consultation framework to solicit feed back from partners and passengers.

This is a great opportunity to develop Driven further now that our Deal funding has finished. Its been a busy 12 months and It’s a fine line between keeping our costs as low as possible and covering our costs. this additional funding will help the charity while we work our way towards longer term sustainability. At the end of this grant we will be able to apply for further Reaching Communities funding if we want to extend our reach further.
